Werribee Range Open Zoo Incursion

Some Recounts about the Excursion by Grade 3 Students

On Thursday all the year 3’s went to Werribee zoo. We first got on the bus. It took a long time to finally get there. Once we arrived we went to a shelter to eat our fruit. When everyone had eaten their fruit one of the teachers pointed out a gorilla. When the teacher said those words I was shocked because I thought that the gorilla was close. Once I realised that it was far I got calm and went to see the gorilla.

The next activity the class had done was the safari tour. We first saw some horses after that we saw camels on the road! There was a lady that was guiding us and telling us interesting facts about the animals we pass, the lady said to the camels “get out camels” and they finally gave way to us.

Next we went to the cheater. The cheater was just sitting in the shade. I was surprised to see the cheater sitting down in the shade because they usually run in laps.

After that, we went to the tourist centre. We saw a seven year old snake. A member was telling us interesting facts about him. Before we had our lunch we went into another shelter to see some animal skulls. I learned a valuable lesson about the skulls. If the animal has sharp teeth that means that animal is a carnival. If they have flat teeth that means that animal is an herbivore. If the animal has sharp teeth at the front and flat at the back that means that animal is an omnivore.

Lastly we had lunch and it was pouring rain so we were stuck where we ate our lunch.

Then it was the time to go we had to go. We hopped on the bus and went back to school. It was a great day, I was exited although it did rain I had lots of fun.

On 16 November 2017 we went to Werribee open range zoo with my fantastic class.

When we arrived at Werribee open range zoo first went to the African village to have our fresh fruit. While we were having our fresh fruit some of my friends from other classes saw two gorillas. One of the gorillas was climbing down the tree and the other gorilla looked like it was reading a book.

After all the classes were done we went to the Werribee open range zoo Safari tour. When the lady that was going to take us on the tour, she informed us a video about the things that we should not do like eat or drink, phones should not be on a loud voice because the animals will wake up or be scared.

When the Safari bus started I screamed out “See you In Africa” to three people and my teacher Mrs. Sirin laughed. The first animal that we saw on the safari tour was the wild horses, then we saw bisons, the third animal we saw was a camel. When we saw the camels, it was in front of our bus so the lady said move out the way camels and everyone laughed with laughter. So we moved on to the hippos I was quite scared that one will bite us all, but luckily it did not eat us all.

We continued our journey on bad condition weather to the rhinos, zebras and the giraffe’s. We wanted the giraffes to lick our hands but it will never want to, it will only lick us for food, that’s quite weird. We moved on to the deer’s witch were trapped in a cage in a bush. When the Safari was over we had our recess and played games with Mohammed Faid and Hudayfa Ahmad. We had one more Safari to complete and that was the bones of an animal, were we had to figure out what the bone of the animal was. We first went to a special animal which was a snake. The snakes name was Jono we had to touch him. When I touched him He felt smooth and soft.

When the safari was over, we had to go the see the animals bone to guess what it was and we had a Serval. When the actual safari was over we went to the café and went to get some chips to eat the chips was delicious. I had a great time with my class even the weather was on bad conditions it was the best Excursion ever!

Yesterday my class and I went to the Werribee open range zoo.

First we had a fruit break and then we got to see the gorillas. They were pretty funny.

Then we had a long walk to the safari tour. I saw the gorillas, camels, zebras, giraffe, rhinos, hippos, bison, ostriches, antelopes and the przewalski’s horses. But when we were with the camels, behind our half truck half bus we saw a teenage girl taking a picture of the camels then the camel loved her and the girl got a chance to pat it.

Soon we went to see the animal that has lots of dots…the one and only the cheetahs!!!the zoo keeper said that there was only one cheetah because if they were 2 cheetahs, then1 of them will fight and kill each other the zookeeper said they like their own territory.

After that we went to the tourist centre but then something funny happened, Miss Sirin got lost! But luckily we found our way. So when we were there, the zookeeper showed us a snake that was 7 years old, it was 1 metre long, and I remember how the snake got to the zoo. It was in a suit case. I’ve learnt that the dad was 2 meters long.

Then we went to see the bones of the animals that were carnivore, omnivore or herbivore but luckily they were plastic so we had a chat if the animal was carnivore, omnivore or herbivore so she gave us each a bone and we had to answer if it was a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. So after that we had lunch and I ate salami with bread.

Over all, I felt amazing with all the new animals that I saw and the most fun part was when we went to the safari tour. And it was also my favourite part.

Feathers, Fur or Leaves

This term, Year 3 students had the opportunity to explore biological sciences. The students had been studying the unit Feathers, Fur or Leaves. Students had the opportunity to explore features of living things, and ways they can be grouped together. Through hands-on activities, students explored how living things can be grouped on the basis of observable features and can be distinguished from non-living things. They used this knowledge to investigate animals further with the Zoo Comes to You Incursion.

The Human Knot

In 4B, we have been developing our resilience through workshops. The pictures show us working together in an activity called 'The Human Knot.'

It was a LOT of fun trying to communicate and cooperate to untie the knot.

Fun Learning Maths

Grade 4 students have been looking at Kilograms and Grams this term. We have had the opportunity to connect ourselves with everyday items, to have a real sense of things when learning about Kilograms and grams. In our Probability lessons, Grade 4D was very excited to use the sticky note pads and write the likelihood of everyday events occurring in their lives. Students enjoyed working as a class and had fun.

School Lessons

On my sports field, I learnt about winning graciously and loosing graciously. In my classroom, I learnt that doing your best counted more than my scores. In the playground, friendship counted more than popularity. I’ve learnt that teachers who believed in me, enabled me to believe in myself. They showed that I was capable of more than I thought.

In school, I’ve learnt not to take no for an answer. I’ve learnt that no one but me can decide what I can and cannot achieve. I now know that “no” sometimes only means “not this way”.

My ability to communicate is one the most important skills I will ever have. My curiosity, my questioning, and my ability to listen.

My teachers who went beyond the curriculum, taught me to believe in myself and taught me how I best learn will always stay with me.

These are the lessons that I’ve learnt at school and ones I will take with me everywhere.

Graduation is a day to celebrate your success throughout your primary years. Graduation was one of the biggest days of our life, and we all worked very hard for it.

The student performances were amazing and they all seemed like professionals. Students had a great time and so did each and every single family.

The teachers were excellent planners and I thank them for that. It was a magnificent day that I got to spend with my friends and family and I don’t think I will ever forget this.

Thank you to everybody involved in help putting this night together.
